GRAIN JACK PLANE HAND BOARD

Jack planes are found on just about every craftsman’s workbench – it’s even the tool you see in the Grain Surfboards logo. We named this cool hand-board after the Jack Plane for one simple reason: every surfer should have one. A subtle single-to-double concave pays homage to the single most common performance characteristic found in surfboards today, with a wing rail thrown in for fun.

We started thinking about hand-boards when we watched some friends getting right into it on a small day with just some flippers and a little chip of foam. Used on your leading hand, hand-boards help give you lift and planing surface. A hand-board will help get more of your upper body out of the water, making for a quicker line down the wave, and helping to keep your head up high so you can see who’s dropping in you.

We keep it simple with beautifully shaped, totally unique hand boards fitted with hand-hold cutouts so there will never be broken straps. They’re solid wood so feel free to drill them out for wrist-straps, camera mounts, or to enlarge the hand-holds. Just re-seal them once in a while with boiled linseed oil or your favorite sealer. We named them after the actual tools (also known as “hand planes”) that we use around the shop.
